Company information

Our systems are created based on research and development by the Ikeuchi-Oishi Lab at the University of Tokyo. We at AsukaLab have an exclusive license to use these technologies. The projects Virtual Asukakyo, Virtual Reconstruction of Heijyo-kyo Palace & the Sannai-Maruyama Site, as well as the Demonstration for the 2016 Tokyo Olympic Bid are conducted at the University of Tokyo. Management team

CEO: Tetsuya Kakuta

Kakuta is a co-founder of AsukaLab Inc. As a graduate student, he produced the Mixed Reality Virtual Asukakyo project. In order to find practical applications for his research, he established AsukaLab Inc. in 2008. He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Tokyo.

External director: Takeshi Oishi

Oishi is a co-founder of AsukaLab Inc. and an Associate Professor of Advanced Mobility Research with the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo. He specializes in 3D object modeling and Mixed Reality development. He holds a Ph.D in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Tokyo.

Founder: Katsushi Ikeuchi

Ikeuchi is a co-founder of AsukaLab Inc. and a Professor with the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo. He holds a Ph.D in Information Engineering from the University of Tokyo. He has worked at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the Electrotechnical Laboratory at MIT for 3 and 5 years, respectively. After this, he worked 10 years for the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2012, he was awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal by the Japanese government for his academic contributions.
